Fariz Rustam Munaf, better known as Fariz RM, is an acclaimed Indonesian musician and audio-visual artist. He first began his career in 1977, when he joined the Prambors FM Song Writing Contest for adolescents and finished in the top ten. On the same year, he played the drums for the movie soundtrack “Badai Pasti Berlalu”. Chrisye gave him the nickname ‘Fariz RM’ during that time, which he continued to use as a stage name.
Fariz released his first album, Selangkah ke Seberang, in 1979. On the following year, he released “Sakura”, a song that got him acknowledged massively by the public.
Throughout his career, Fariz had become a member of various bands, including WOW, Jakarta Rhythm Section, Symphony, Transs, Rollies, and Giant Steps. Fariz’s unique genre combines jazz and rock with a pinch of groove. The Jakarta Post describes his music as "... a spectrum of styles and sounds not immediately apparent, except to discriminating ears...”
